I was wondering the other day why don't kids have the same hangups as we adults do?
I think it's because, along the way to becoming adults we become logical, we become regimented, life becomes a race, and we become disconnected from ourselves and our creativity, and we lose our sense of wonder.
Life becomes a rut. We take things for granted. We only focus on what we need to get our tasks, milestones, and goals ticked off from our never-ending to-do list.
But we can get that feeling of wonder back.
Remember summertime as a child and how carefree you were, how the sound of the ice cream truck would get you excited, or how it felt running in a pile of fallen leaves. Remember how it felt reading your favorite book or jumping in puddles on a rainy day.
Life was amazing.
We can get back to that state of childlike wonder by becoming more present at this very moment and not living in the past or worrying about the future.
Get back to this moment.
Look around you.
Look at the beautiful and wonderful moment you are in.
Look at the details in the objects right where you are.
Examine the textures, sounds, shapes, smells, and colors around you.
Notice the everyday things around you that you may have overlooked in the busyness of life and spend a few moments appreciating them such as:
The small flowers on the side of the road.
The lightness of the clouds in the sky.
The texture of the moon.
Feeling of the wind on your skin.
The taste of your coffee as you take your first sip.
The smell in the air right before it starts to rain.
Each moment brings an opportunity to be present in this moment.
By bringing your attention back to the present moment and the delight that is around you, you can once again regain a sense of childlike wonder and see life in beautiful vividness.
Till next time, stay strong!
