The Craft of Bookmaking in Japan

Do you remember the “How It’s Made” videos where they would show the craft that went into the making of products? If you do, then you know just how mesmerizing the videos were. My favorites were the handmade ones such as the making of the fine Italian shoes, the ice sculptures, and the making of chocolate, which I can of course watch all day long.

Kissa by Kissa
I wanted to share a video by writer and photographer Craig Mod, he writes an amazing newsletter which you should definitely sign up for. Craig loves walking and has been walking through all parts of Japan. He recently published a book called Kissa by Kissa which is on walking across Japan and the old cafe, kissaten culture as well as the unique delight called pizza toast. He just release a behind-the-scenes look at the craft that went into the making of his latest book. It is amazing to see so much dedication from all the people involved. They each poured their passions into this and you can see the final product is a beautiful work of art.

I hope you are inspired by the dedication and craft of all those involved in the making of this book. The thoughtful and intentional choices made by both Craig Mod and the craftspeople are something we emulate and bring into our daily work to help make it amazing and purposeful.

Let me know what you think in the comments.

Cheers,

Rizwan
