New podcast episode: Taking action to make opportunities with Candice Yee
Kon'nichiwa
Hi friend, I hope you’re doing well and are staying safe as we go through another phase of COVID. Hopefully, it passes by quickly and we can begin our reintegration into society yet again.
Today I want to share the latest episode of the Low Fidelity podcast in which I have a conversation with Candice Yee, a product designer based in Toronto. What I love about Candice’s story is that she takes action instead of waiting for things to happen. When she moved to Kuala Lumpur, even though she didn’t know anyone in the UX field she took the opportunity to start a Meetup group to connect and network with fellow designers and practitioners. This was not an easy thing to do being an introvert in a new country but she did it however uncomfortable it was for her. For me, that is such an inspirational story and something we can all apply in our lives. We can all have a bias for action even in the face of the obstacles and fear that we are faced with.
Highlights from our conversation:
Take ownership of your career and take the steps needed to make the best of your situation.
Find opportunities to connect with designers and to build your network, you never know where it will lead to.
We need to keep getting better at taking feedback which will help us grow as designers and keep some separation between our work and ourselves to not get too attached.
When starting out we all face hurdles and challenges but if you connect to your passion for creating great experiences you can ride out those career challenges.
Even introverts can get out there and enjoy the benefits of networking.
I also started something new, in each episode of the podcast I will ask my guests to share a challenge with you and me to take on. Want to know what Candice challenged us to do? Find out by listening to the episode. It’s a good one! :)
That’s it for now. I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of rest and creativity.
Cheers,
Rizwan
