Kicking things off...

The book "Design is a Job" by Mike Monteiro helped me become a designer. It helped me realize the importance of the work I was doing and it gave me the confidence to do it well. Here are a few excerpts that helped me.

"A designer needs to have a point of view. You need to care about the shit you’re working on and the effect it’s having on the people and planet around you while both of those things still exist."

This is the essence of the book. Designers are not pixel pushers, they need to approach their work with a point of view on what will deliver the best outcomes. They need to do the work to make the results happen.

Howdy,

The book that really impacted my career was Event Design Handbook, as it was my first introduction to the power of design thinking. The book takes a general perspective on the word event to meaning any interaction of two or more people. The book introduces design thinking as part of a larger framework, but inspired me to explore more into the topic and ultimately find a career path.:

The ultimate value of an event is realizing change. It takes aligning with multiple perspectives to be able to do so.

- Change requires empathy
